Director General Yumkella visits Rwanda
KIGALI, 10 June 2013 – The Director General of UNIDO, Kandeh K. Yumkella, visited Rwanda from 9 to 10 June to take stock of the work the Organization does in the country and explore ways to further improve the technical assistance provided to the Government of Rwanda through the United Nation’s Delivering as One initiative.
The initiative focuses on ensuring that the UN works more coherently and effectively across the world in the areas of development, humanitarian assistance and the environment.
During his visit, Yumkella met with President Paul Kagame, who expressed his appreciation of the quality of the partnership between UNIDO and the Government of Rwanda through the Delivering as One approach. They also discussed issues related to the
Sustainable Energy for All initiative.
President Kagame commended the work by Kandeh Yumkella during his eight years at the helm of UNIDO, and wished him well in his future function as the Special Representative for Sustainable Energy for All and the CEO of the initiative.
Director General Yumkella also met the Minister of Trade and Industry, François Kanimba; the Minister of Infrastructure, Silas Lwakabamba; and the Minister of State in Charge of Energy and Water, Emma Françoise Isumbingabo. The discussions focused on ways to fast track the economic transformation of the country through industrial development and sustainable and clean energy development.
