Entrepreneurial development focus of UNIDO workshop in Lahore

LAHORE, 25 April 2014 – Fifteen participants, including members of the Board of Investment of the Government of Pakistan, the Women’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Trade Development Authority attended a five-day workshop on entrepreneurial development that ended in Lahore’s Chamber of Commerce today.

Participants were trained to identify, select, counsel and support potential entrepreneurs in setting up their small enterprises, as well as in the process of planning and implementing entrepreneurship development programmes for various target groups.

The event was part of a series of workshops that are being held within the framework of a project that focuses on building the capacity of small businesses and developing national capabilities in the field.
In 2006, the Italian Government and UNIDO launched a joint programme aimed at establishing an Investment Promotion Unit (IPU) in Lahore, with emphasis on Italian investment in Pakistan.

Through the provision of investment promotion services, UNIDO continues to support the Government of Pakistan in its efforts to stimulate industrialization by developing strategies which have a direct impact on SME development and growth, employment creation and technology upgrading.
