AMMAN, 10 December 2013 – The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation (JEDCO) and the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI) today concluded a validation workshop for a new project that will help establish a packaging centre in Jordan.
The event was designed to enhance the compliance capacity of the Jordanian enterprises with a focus on packaging and labeling standards. It was attended by the Deputy Chairman of Jordan’s Chamber of Industry, Nazal Armouti,and the CEO of JEDCO, Yarub Qudah, as well as Government officials, and representatives of Jordanian small and medium enterprises (SMEs).
Deputy Chairman Armouti praised the partnership between UNIDO and Jordan’s Chamber of Industry, and stressed the importance of the establishment of a new packaging centre for the country’s industries.
The CEO of JEDCO, Yarub Qudah, said that Jordan’s packaging services would help promote exports by complying with international standards. He noted JEDCO’s readiness to work with UNIDO to set up the centre and called on the international donor community and Jordan’s private sector to support the project.
The Head of UNIDO Operations in Jordan, Esam Alqararah, said that UNIDO continued to support the development Jordan’s industries and invited new partners and potential donors to join its efforts.
A study tour was also organized for representatives of Jordanian SMEs to the Lebanon Packaging centre (Libanpack) as part of South-South cooperation.
