Mozambique’s FUNAE wins Organization of the Year at Southern African Development Community Quality Awards
GABORONE, 19 March 2014 – Mozambique, a newcomer to the annual Southern African Development Community (SADC) Quality Awards that were held today in Botswana’s capital Gaborone, made a grand first appearance after its organization, FUNAE, won Best Organization of the Year 2013.
FUNAE, Fundo de Energia or Energy Fund, is a public institution committed to promoting renewable energy and rural electrification and contributing to the social and economic development of Mozambique.
The SADC Annual Quality Awards celebrate the achievements in quality enhancement of companies throughout southern Africa by recognizing the best company or organization, exporter, product, service and individual of the year.
In order to participate in the SADC awards, countries need to have a national instance to select their representatives. Until recently, Mozambique did not have one.
As part of the project “Competir com Qualidade” or Competing with Quality, UNIDO helped Mozambique develop its own quality awards to enable companies’ participation in the regional awards. Made possible by the financial support of the European Union and the Government of Austria, “Competir com Qualidade” seeks to enhance the level of development and competitiveness of private sector companies in Mozambique.
FUNAE was one of the winners of the Quality Award of Mozambique 2013, which was organized by the National Institute for Standardization and Quality (INNOQ) in collaboration with the Confederation of Business Associations of Mozambique (CTA) and launched by the Minister of Industry and Commerce.
