New UNIDO guide looks at integrated value chain diagnostics
VIENNA, 22 July 2011 – Ways to properly diagnose industrial value chains in preparation for a combined and more successful project implementation is the focus of a new publication released today by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
The guide, Diagnostics for Industrial Value Chain Development, has been developed by a group of international value chain experts from UNIDO and outside after many years of experience in analyzing value chains in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
“The guide will help look at value chains from the processor’s perspective and bring together very important pieces in value chain development,” said Frank Hartwich, Project Manager in UNIDO’s Agribusiness Development Branch.
“As it looks at the entire value chain cycle and not just one part, it has the potential to increase coordinated efforts between implementers in value chain development and promotion,” said Hartwich.
Value chain development is essential to creating wealth and promoting equitable economic growth in developing countries and is currently a top priority for many Governments, private companies and development agencies.
