KINSHASA, 2 February 2016 – During his official visit to the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), which ended today, the Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), LI Yong, met with Prime Minister, Mapon Matata Ponyo.
The two sides agreed to strengthen and expand the joint cooperation and technical assistance rendered to DRC by UNIDO, especially in the field of inclusive and sustainable industrial development.
Director General and the Prime Minister co-chaired a governmental seminar which gathered the ministers of Industry, Finance, Energy, Agriculture, and Environment, Planning, Gender and SME development. The seminar focused on the key role of industrialization in poverty eradication and the emergence of a strong and robust economy which should benefit all Congolese people as well as neighboring countries.
The Prime Minister thanked Director General Li for UNIDO’s technical assistance, and voiced his country’s commitment towards inclusive and sustainable industrialization.
Li also met with representatives of the World Bank, and the European Union, as well as with the United Nations Resident Coordinator and Deputy Representative of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
