UNIDO increases technical cooperation to support the sustainable development of Belarus’ industrial sector

VIENNA, 1 October 2013 – The Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), LI Yong, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Aleksandr Guryanov, today signed a Framework Programme of Cooperation between UNIDO and the Government of Belarus at UNIDO headquarters in Vienna.

The Programme gives priority to the following areas of technical cooperation for the period of 2013-2017: environment and energy, including resource-efficient and cleaner production; water management; renewable energy and energy efficiency; technology learning; innovation and development; investment promotion and technology transfer; small and medium-sized enterprise development and cooperation; strengthening quality infrastructure; and strengthening the agro-food and automotive industrial sectors.

As a next step, the partners will develop a portfolio of technical cooperation projects for the Republic of Belarus to meet the objectives of the country in the area of sustainable industrial development.

UNIDO and the Government of Belarus will cooperate in the mobilization of financial resources for potential projects under this programme, and will explore financing from such sources as international finance organizations, donor countries and the private sector as part of a funds mobilization strategy.
