UNIDO opens office in Khartoum

KHARTOUM, 3 February 2014 – The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) today opened an office in Khartoum.

The official ceremony was attended by the Minister of Industry, Elsimih Elsiddig, the Secretary-General of the Sudanese Chambers of Industries Association (SCIA), Abbas Ali El Sayed, and Ambassador Sirajuldin Yousuf, Director General of International Organizations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Minister Elsiddig congratulated UNIDO on its new premises in Khartoum, and commended the  excellent cooperation between UNIDO and the Sudanese Government, especially after the signing of the Industrial Modernization Programme for Sudan last June.

Secretary-General El Sayed expressed the full support of the country’s private sector for the implementation of the Industrial Modernization Programme.

Ambassador Yousuf highlighted the importance of boosting industrial development in Sudan, and stressed the full support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the mission of UNIDO in his country.

The head of the UNIDO Office, Khaled El Mekwad, reiterated UNIDO’s commitment to work closely with all partners in Sudan to provide adequate technical cooperation delivery in line with the national priorities, and help further develop cooperation industrial development activities in the future.
