LAHORE, 16 May 2014 – A five-day workshop focusing on investment promotion, organized by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and Pakistan’s Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA), concluded today at the offices of Lahore’s Chamber of Commerce. Fifteen participants, including representatives from SMEDA, the Pakistan government’s Board of Investment, the Punjab Board of Investment and Trade, the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan, the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and the Automotive Parts Association, attended the workshop.
Participants were trained to apply UNIDO’s systematic approach for the identification, formulation and promotion of investment opportunities, and to develop strategic business alliances, prepare investment project profiles and identify foreign partners, organize investment and technology forums, including business-to-business interactions, as well as investment impact assessment and monitoring through after-care services.
Similar to the Entrepreneurial Development workshop held in Lahore in April 2014, this event is part of a series of capacity-building activities and workshops being held within the framework of the “Joint UNIDO-SMEDA-Italy Programme to establish an Investment Promotion Unit (IPU) in Lahore, with emphasis on Italian investment in Pakistan”.
Through the provision of investment promotion services, UNIDO continues to support the Government of Pakistan in its efforts to stimulate industrialization by developing strategies which have a direct impact on small and medium-sized enterprise development and growth, employment creation and technology upgrading.
