Workshop on sustainable biofuels to be held in South Africa
PRETORIA, South Africa, 11 July 2012 - Experts from the fifteen Southern African Development Community (SADC) countries will attend a regional workshop on the latest biofuels technologies in Pretoria from 24 to 27 July.
The event will be organized by the International Centre for Science and High Technology (ICS-UNIDO) based in Trieste, Italy, in cooperation with the Technology Innovation Agency (TIA) of South Africa.
“Biofuels technologies are constantly advancing,” said ICS Managing Director Stefano Bologna. “They have a vast potential to provide energy, chemicals, drugs and nutrients, and are an important source of income for many emerging economies. Technology sharing and technology transfer in this area are very important.”
Bologna added that the workshop will support the efforts of SADC and its member countries to develop new green technologies and regional and national policies on biofuels. The workshop will also help increase the awareness on both science and technology and the sustainability aspects in developing biofuels.
