The workshop on “Strengthening International Alliances in the Global Market” in Ecuador brought together representatives from Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) national export facilitation agencies, senior experts from the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and experts from the BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia and China). It contributed to the enhancement of cooperation and partnerships in trade and investments between LAC countries, the EAEU and the BRICS countries.
Held from 14 to 17 July 2015 in Quito, Ecuador, the workshop brought together 75 representatives from 32 countries. It was opened by the Ministry of Foreign Trade of Ecuador, Diego Aulestia; the Ambassador of the Russian Federation in Ecuador, Yan A. Burliay; the Director of International Relations for Integration and Cooperation of SELA (the Latin American and Caribbean Economic System), Román Mayorga; and the Chief of UNIDO's Latin America and the Caribbean Bureau, Carlos Chanduvi-Suarez. The Andean Community (CAN), represented by Santiago Segovia, also participated in the success of the interregional dialogue.
The exchange of knowledge between the regions contributed to the enhancement of cooperation, partnership and building of business strategic alliances in trade and investment. A special focus was thrown on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as one of the main actors in national economies generating employment and encouraging international development. SMEs benefited directly from the workshop by getting first-hand information on the requirements for import/export in their specific areas.
The aim of strengthening interregional trade alliances between LAC, BRICS and the EEU countries was promoted emphasizing different aspects of trade capacity-building in each presentation. You will find the workshop presentations and related information under Information by Country.
