Post-liquidation monitoring and results

Chemical analyses of soil samples from under the facility floor, performed after completion of decommissioning work, have shown that γ-HCH concentration exceeded permissible values for the planned residential uses of the area based on the Ordinance of the Minister of the Environment on soil and land standards.

In order to make the final statement about the efficiency of the remediation that was carried out in this area, between December 2005 and May 2006, systematic testing of the soil in the location of the landfill was performed.  As before the contractor was selected through a process of competitive bidding. The contractor had to prove his knowledge and experience in carrying out this type of work and in addition had implemented quality assurance systems confirmed by an accreditation certificate.

The monitoring results showed that depending on the expected future uses of this area it would require remediation to a pre-determined status. Thus, at the stage of planning of this study, the method of area sampling was selected so that the obtained test results can be applied as well to evaluate conformity to the criteria for land types B or C.
