VIENNA, 11 February 2016 - Michele Valensise, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy, paid a courtesy call to Director General Li. He indicated Italy’s keen interest in supporting the implementation of the SDGs and the need to address root causes of migration through job creation. Li thanked him for the strong support of the Government of Italy, and informed him about some of the UNIDO highlights for this year.


    VIENNA, 11 February 2016 - The new Permanent Representative of Gabon, Marianne Odette Bibalou Bounda, presented her credentials to Director General Li. Outlining her Government’s three priorities, namely a “green, industrial and linked” Gabon, Bibalou Bounda emphazied that UNIDO’s support was fundamental. Li highlighted the key activities of UNIDO in 2016 and discussed new trends in building industrial corridors and parks with neighboring countries.


    VIENNA, 10 February 2016 - Rashid Meredov, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs visited the Director General to discuss on-going and future cooperation with UNIDO. He invited UNIDO to help strengthen technical knowledge and capacities of local experts, and improve business support institutions. Li welcomed the significant role that Turkmenistan is playing in implementing inclusive and sustainable industrialization in its region.


    VIENNA, 9 February 2016 - The new Permanent Representative of Monaco, Isabelle Berro-Amadei, presented her credentials to Director General Li, who outlined UNIDO’s priorities in implementing the 2030 Agenda and SDG 9, and the partnerships with DFIs and the private sector. The Ambassador said that the Prince Albert II Foundation, which supports environmental protection and renewable energy in Mediterranean countries and Africa, could be a potential partner for UNIDO.


    VIENNA, 9 February 2016 - Director General LI Yong met with Talya Lador-Fresher, Permanent Representative of Israel to UNIDO to extend a memorandum of understanding between UNIDO and the Development Cooperation of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MASHAV) to cooperate in the field of agribusiness development, especially in Africa.


    VIENNA, 27 January 2016 – The Government of Japan will further expand its contribution to 300 million JPY (approximately US $3 million) to the Low Carbon Low Emission Clean Energy Technology (LCET) Programme being implemented by UNIDO, specifically in Africa. An agreement of this program was signed today by Mitsuru Kitano, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Japan to the International Organizations in Vienna, and LI Yong, the Director General of UNIDO.


    VIENNA, 26 January 2016 - The Director General received the credentials of Jesse Alonso Chacón Escamillo, Permanent Representative of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to UNIDO. Chacón Esamillo informed LI about his Government’s plan to diversify its economy from oil and natural gas, such as developing the iron and steel industry. It was also agreed that UNIDO would prepare a country programme for the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.


    VIENNA, 26 January 2016 - The new Permanent Representative of Iraq, Auday Al-Khairalla presented his credentials to the Director General, who briefed him on UNIDO’s priorities, in particular its role in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda and SDG 9. Discussions also focused on ongoing UNIDO projects in Iraq. The Permanent Representative conveyed his Government’s interest in further expanding the cooperation with UNIDO, particularly in productive capacity-building.


    VIENNA, 25 January 2016 - Tthe Director General met with Mr. Takehiko Nakao, President, Asian Development Bank (ADB) and his delegation. The Director General expressed his wish to further strengthen cooperation and relationship with ADB. An invitation was extended to LI to attend ADB’s annual meeting which will take place in May 2016 in Frankfurt.


    VIENNA, 25 January 2016 - JING Wan (right) and WANG Xiulan, the Deputy Secretaries-General of China Construction Industry Association, paid a courtesy call to the Director General.
