Finding innovative solutions to achieve the SDGs: Role of 4IR technologies
A joint initiative launched by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Ministry of Economy of the United Arab Emirates, the Global Manufacturing and Industrialization Summit (GMIS) aims to promote a roadmap for future industrial development to echo the evolution in international trade and global best practices. A clear strategy and the establishment of the first global manufacturing agenda is certainly what GMIS is striving for.
The Summit identified five potential key industrial technologies which could most effectively direct the trajectory of the Fourth Industrial Revolution in terms of the economic, environmental and social objectives of development. These pathways include:
- ·The Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT);
- ·Artificial Intelligence (AI);
- ·Advanced robotics;
- ·Wearable technologies;
- ·3D printing.
The intended panel sessions will discuss the greater applicability of these advanced technologies as well as highlight, examine and suggest ways of collaboration between manufacturing firms, governments, academia, and non-governmental organizations to harness the potential of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR).The purpose of the event is to reduce the uncertainty of nascent technological upheaval through promoting a global manufacturing strategy fully aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and propel advanced manufacturing towards sustainable economic, environmental and social development.
