The Permanent Mission of Japan to the International Organizations in Vienna and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) are organizing the event “UNIDO-Japan partnership for Africa” in March 2025.

A panel exhibition will showcase achievements and examples of UNIDO-Japan cooperation in Africa. The exhibition will be on display throughout the week (17–21 March 2025) and will cover recent projects funded by Japan in Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, South Sudan, Uganda and Zambia, as well as the activities of the UNIDO ITPO Tokyo in Africa. 

An opening ceremony is scheduled for Monday, 17 March 2025 at 12:30 in the rotunda of the Vienna International Centre with remarks by: 

• His Excellency Mr. Atsushi KAIFU, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Japan 
• Mr. Gerd MÜLLER, UNIDO Director General (video message) 
• Her Excellency Ms. Maimounata OUATTARA, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Burkina Faso, Chairperson of the African Group 
• Mr. Yuko YASUNAGA, UNIDO Deputy to the Director General and Managing Director 

The opening ceremony will be complemented by a musical performance by the My Heart String Quartet Hiroshima and a presentation of newly funded projects in Ethiopia, Nigeria, Sudan, the United Republic of Tanzania, and a regional project (Egypt, Kenya, Morocco, Nigeria, Senegal, South Africa, United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia). 

A reception following the opening ceremony will provide networking opportunities for interested participants.
