Awarding global excellence in chemical leasing

VIENNA, 19 June 2012 - The second Global Chemical Leasing Award Ceremony will take place today during the ACHEMA 2012 Congress in Frankfurt, Germany. ACHEMA is the World Exhibition Congress on Chemical Engineering, Environmental Protection and Biotechnology.

The Global Chemical Leasing Award is jointly sponsored by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the Austrian Federal Ministry for Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management and the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.

Chemical leasing is a ‘smart’ business model, promoted by UNIDO since 2004. Users only pay for the services rendered by the chemicals (e.g. the volume of water treated, number of parts painted, lengths of pipes cleaned, etc.) and not for the volume of chemicals consumed. By de-coupling the payment from the consumption of chemicals, chemical leasing encourages better chemicals management. This results in clear environmental advantages, as well as consequent economic benefits for both suppliers and users of chemicals.

Chemical leasing is part of UNIDO’s Green Industry strategy, encouraging the international community to commit to sound chemicals management and resource efficiency.

The second Global Chemical Leasing Award Ceremony will start at 18.00 in Harmony Hall in the Congress Centre, Frankfurt. Awards will be presented by Philippe Scholtes, Director of UNIDO’s Agribusiness Development Branch; Hubert Steinkemper, Director-General for Environmental Health, Emission Control, Safety of Installations and Transport and Chemical Safety, the German Environment Ministry (BMU); and Thomas Jakl, Director of the Chemicals Policy Unit, the Austrian Environment Ministry (BMLFUW).

Guests of ACHEMA and journalists are welcome! Participation is free of charge. Pre-registration is kindly requested: globalaward2012@gmail.com
