The UNIDO–SPX database programme helps Indian auto component manufacturers reach out to auto companies.

The United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), showcased its Subcontracting and Partnership Exchange programme (SPX) at the Auto Expo 2010 in New Dehli, India on 5 - 11 January, 2010.

The SPX programme is a database, which keeps information of over 700 component manufacturers in the areas of Delhi, Pune and Chennai. The database helps automobile companies to source their requirements of auto components and accessories from Indian component manufacturers, most of whom are in the small and medium sector.

UNIDO-SPX India also serves a technical information and matchmaking centre for industrial subcontracting, supply chain management and partnerships between buyers and suppliers. It aims at optimizing the manufacturing capacities and capabilities of affiliated Indian enterprises.

Members of the UNIDO-SPX operate in various areas such as the metal sector; (machining; casting; forging and sheet metal processing), the rubber sect and  in the electronics sector.

The SPX database is an integral part of UNIDO’s ongoing Consolidated Programme for the Development of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in India, and is being implemented in auto component clusters across the country.

The Auto Expo 2010 was jointly organized by the Automotive Component Manufacturers Association of India (ACMA), the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

The Auto Expo is the first domestic exhibition creating a series of connections for Indian auto component manufacturers with auto companies in the target countries whose delegations were attending the Auto Expo, as well as with major Indian players. The cooperation with ACMA and SIAM  represents an important step for SPX to become an important player in the auto component scenario in India.
