LIMA, 14 June 2012 – The Director-General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Kandeh K. Yumkella, met with President Ollanta Moisés Humala Tasso during his official visit to Peru.
Among other topics, they discussed how UNIDO might support Peru in creating employment and providing wider access to electricity and renewable energy. In this context, they also discussed the possibility of UNIDO opening a country office in Lima.
Peru’s Minister of Production, Gladys Triveño, later announced that the new UNIDO office will be located at her ministry.
Yumkella visited Peru while en route to Rio de Janeiro to attend the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (Rio+20).
