ISLAMABAD, 30 April 2011 – An innovative leather products technology unit, established by UNIDO, was today inaugurated at the Leather Products Development Institute, in Sialkot, Pakistan.
“Under this project, UNIDO provided direct assistance to small and medium industrial units of the country,” said Shadia Yousif Bakhait, UNIDO Representative in Pakistan.
“We helped them evaluate business opportunities, find and establish market niches, build product ranges, and improve production methods and product quality. This helped enhance productivity, and develop labour and managerial skills.”
She added that UNIDO was also helping leather-related industries in Pakistan organize comprehensive professional training courses in design, technology and management, as well as experts meetings, workshops and seminars.
The inauguration was attended by Muhammad Younis, Chairman, Pakistan Gloves Manufacturers and Exporters Association, Sialkot.
The project for provision of latest technology to upgrade the leather training institutes is a component of UNIDO’s One UN Programme in Pakistan.
