Italian clusters to explore business opportunities in Viet Nam

HANOI, 16 May 2012 – Representatives of some 50 Italian business companies, academia, technical centres will take part in a joint event with Vietnamese entrepreneurs and institutions from 24 to 26 May to explore investment and market opportunities in the country.

The workshop will be organized as part of a project funded by the Government of Italy and implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) on developing clusters of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Italian entrepreneurs and representatives of industrial districts will be able to explore the potential of Viet Nam as a business destination and is expected to develop new business partnerships within the textile and clothing, footwear and leather and furniture clusters.
The workshop “Enterprise Partnerships for Development” will be opened by the Ambassador of Italy, Lorenzo Angeloni, the UNIDO country representative, Patrick Gillabert, and the Vice Minister of Planning and Investment, Dang Huy Dong. It follows a Road-Show in eight cities Italy that presented Vietnam as a production and distribution platform for European companies to access the ASEAN market with 600 million consumers.

UNIDO has provided technical assistance to around 80 Vietnamese companies in the textile and clothing, footwear and leather products, and furniture sectors and their support institutions and service providers operating in an embryonic form of industrial cluster.
