VIENNA, 5 October 2012 – The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the European Academy of Bolzano (EURAC) are teaming up to promote sustainable energy, energy efficiency and renewable energy, and to develop sustainable energy policies and regional partnerships.
An agreement was signed in Vienna today by Kandeh K. Yumkella, the Director-General of UNIDO, and Werner Stuflesser, President of EURAC.
“We are convinced that this partnership can bring very concrete results, in particular through research activities, projects, and policy advice to governments and decision makers. This is also a starting point of a very fruitful and long term cooperation process especially in the framework of the Sustainable Energy for All initiative,” said President Stuflesser.
The European Academy of Bolzano is a private centre for research and further education with headquarters in Bolzano, the capital of the province of South Tyrol in northern Italy. The Academy has developed expertise in the field of sustainable development and sustainable energy solutions, such as solar energy applications, energy potential estimations and energy efficiency measures.
The new partnership between UNIDO and EURAC will contribute to sustainable development in mountain regions, in particular, the Carpathians, a range of mountains forming an arc across Central and Eastern Europe.
UNIDO recognizes the significant contribution that can be made by the private sector to its strategic objectives and therefore actively promotes cooperation with private sector stakeholders.
