ALGIERS, 30 March 2011 - The Director-General of UNIDO, Kandeh K. Yumkella, today received one of Algeria’s highest awards, the Wissam, for “his services as a son of Africa”, his continued support for human values, and his promotion of industrial development of Africa.
The decree was signed by President Abdelaziz Bouteflika, and presented on his behalf by the Minister of Industry, Small and Medium Enterprises and Investment Promotion, Mohamed Ben Meradi.
Yumkella was taking part in the 19th Conference of African Ministers of Industry (CAMI19), in Algiers. The event was co-organized by UNIDO.
The theme of the conference is “Enhancing Competitiveness of the African Industries through Increased and Improved Value Addition”.
The event brought together some 35 African Ministers of Trade and Industry and heads of delegations from 42 countries of the continent.
