2015 Africa Industrialization Day

The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) hosted a symposium in Vienna on 23 November to celebrate the 2015 Africa Industrialization Day.

The annual commemoration of the Africa Industrialization Day was mandated by the UN General Assembly resolution 44/237 of 22 December 1989. This year UNIDO  convened a symposium under the theme “SMEs for poverty eradication and job creation for women and youth”. It brought together representatives from the diplomatic corps, the private sector, non-governmental organizations and other relevant stakeholders.

The event aimed to initiate discussions and generate political and financial commitment towards Africa’s industrial development in general, with a special focus on SMEs and marginalized groups as development agents.

The event was held at the Vienna International Centre (VIC) from 15:00 to 17:30, in Conference Room 4, 7th floor (C-Building), and was followed by a cocktail reception at the VIC restaurant.
