2018 Global Science and Technology Innovation Conference focused on innovation and development

SHANGHAI, 6 November 2018 – Speaking on behalf of UNIDO Director General LI Yong, Bernardo Calzadilla-Sarmiento, Director of UNIDO’s Department of Trade, Investment and Innovation, opened the Second Global Science and Technology Innovation Conference, which was held concurrently to the Second International Technology Park Expo. ZHOU Hanmin, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai CPPCC, also delivered a speech at the opening event, which was hosted by LONG Yongtu, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation and Chairman of the Global UNIDO CEO Development Conference.

Titled “Global Vision, Innovation and Development”, the Conference centered on global science and technology innovation as well as world economic development issues, and featured several high-level events including the First International New Energy Industry Innovation Forum and the Digital Finance Innovation Application Forum.

During the opening ceremony, awards were given to various partner institutions: the Global Science and Technology Innovation Network – Innovation and Entrepreneurship Demonstration Base award was given to Shanghai’s Yangpu District; the Global Science and Technology Innovation Network - G60 Science and Technology Innovation Demonstration Park was awarded to Songjiang District, Shanghai, while Shanghai Yuxin Industrial, Hefei Riyuexin Microelectronics and the Softbank Group won the UNIDO Global Technology Innovation Network-Industry Innovation award, the UNIDO Global Technology Innovation Network-Technology Innovation award and the UNIDO Global Technology Innovation Network - Outstanding Product award, respectively.

The Conference benefitted from numerous experts’ statements, including from XIA Shanchen, President of the US-China International Business Advanced Institute, from YE Zhengguang, founder of the China Energy Conservation and Environmental Protection Group Liuhe Tianrong, from LIU Yaru, Chairman of Hefei Riyue Core Microelectronics, from LIU Xiaolong, Chairman of Shanghai Jiuyou Equity Investment Fund Management, from ZHONG Allen Zhong, Vice President of ARM Global Fund, WU Mengyu, Director of the International New Energy Industry Promotion Center, ZHOU, Chairman of the Sino-German Science and Technology Park Holdings, from WU Jiaxiang, Chairman of Zhangjiang Multinational Enterprise Co-incubation, from ZHENG Yanhai, CTO of Hefei Riyuexin Microelectronics, ZHU Fusheng, Vice President of ZTE Corporation, from HUANG Wulong, Minister for Intelligent city of Shanghai, and from WANG Min, Professor of the Creative Design department, Tongji University.

In addition, ZHU Mingang, Chairman of the Intellectual Property Publishing House, and WANG Genxiang, Shanghai Global Science and Technology Innovation Center, signed a cooperation agreement and unveiled the UNIDO Global Technology Innovation Network-Intellectual Property Service Center. Concurrently, the All-China Lawyers Association (ACLA) and the China Association of Appraisers expressed their willingness to provide business guidance, especially on intellectual property protection.

The Conference was hosted by the UNIDO Shanghai Global Science and Technology Innovation Center (SGSTIC) and Money Weekly, with the support of the China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges (CICETE), the UNIDO Global Technology Innovation Network International New Energy Industry Promotion Center, the Shanghai Energy Valley New Energy Technology, and the China Industrial Upgrade Network. More than 500 scholars, experts, entrepreneurs, partners and media representatives from various sectors and countries attended the conference.
