CAIRO, 21 July 2019 - Egypt’s Prime Minister, H.E Dr. Mustapha Medbouli, has met Giovanna Ceglie, the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) Representative in Egypt, to discuss cooperation on inclusive and sustainable industrial development. The meeting was attended by Richard Dictus, UN Resident Coordinator in Egypt.
Ceglie said that UNIDO is keen on upscaling cooperation with Egypt to support and develop industry through the new Programme for Country Partnership (PCP). She noted that this is taking place in the context of the importance attached by the Egyptian government to the development of the industrial sector and the sector’s key role in achieving development, increasing national income and stimulating exports.
The Prime Minister welcomed UNIDO’s stance, asserting that the Government attaches special importance to the objective of developing and modernizing industry, and is thus working to include it within the stimulus package of the new programme to promote exports. He also mentioned the Government’s effort to develop local industry, through sector-specific plans for, amongst others, the engineering and textile sectors.
Concluding the meeting, it was agreed that UNIDO office in Egypt will liaise with the governmental group concerned with industrial development and modernization in order to agree on a work plan for cooperation.
