PARIS, 26 October 2018 - The International Trade Centre (ITC) has given its World Trade Promotion Organization (WTPO) Award for Best Digital Innovation to the Ghana Export Promotion Authority (GEPA), which established a digital market hub with the support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).
The 2018 WTPO Award recognized the GEPA market hub as the best platform to promote Made in Ghana products and services, and the best resource for suppliers and buyers of Ghanaian products and services. Ghana also won the bid to host the WTPO awards in 2020, while Afua Asabea Asare, GEPA CEO, was appointed to the ITC Executive Director’s advisory board.
The GEPA market hub has been developed within the framework of the UNIDO Trade Capacity Building programme for Ghana, which is funded by the Swiss Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). UNIDO provided ‘on the job’ coaching and training, organized a study tour to exchange best practices, and provided support to the overall design of the market hub.
Since its launch in December 2017, the market hub helps marketers and exporters identify quality requirements of worldwide markets. It also provides them with data on main Ghanaian export products so that they can determine the best customers or countries to export to, and adapt their products and services to market trends, standards, certification, export requirements and other practical information, such as packaging indications.
