BANGKOK, 19 July 2019 -- The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) rolled out its Industrial Analytics Platform (IAP) during a soft launch at the Thailand Industry Expo 2019 today, with support from the Ministry of Industry’s Department of Industrial Promotion (DIP). Thai Minister of Industry, Mr. Suriya Juangroongruangkit, opened the Expo and visited the UNIDO booth that featured the IAP.
The IAP is an innovative tool featuring data on select indicators of industrial development and relevant research by leading experts in an accessible format. The Platform structures the user journey in three main components:
- Data Explorer provides a set of tailored and visualized indicators regarding industrial development, based on data that are derived from internal and external sources.
- Country Profile serves as a quick guide to a country of interest.
- Featured articles are non-technical, concise texts on industrialization issues and trends written by experts.
These components form part of the knowledge resources that will facilitate the conduct of capacity training activities by UNIDO and its partners in the future. The first pilot training workshop making extensive use of the IAP was delivered on the sidelines of the Expo to a group of 40 policymakers from the Thai government. Titled “Leveraging Global Value Chains for Industrial Development” the training examined opportunities for economic development offered through integration and upgrading in global value chains.
The UNIDO IAP was funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation & Development (BMZ).
The platform can be accessed free of charge here.
