SWEIMEH, 17 November 2022 - The Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship of Jordan (MoDEE), the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the United Nations Economic and Social Commission (UN ESCWA) and the European Union Delegation in Jordan presented the country’s  Artificial Intelligence (AI) Strategy and Implementation Roadmap for Jordan (2023-2027) at the 9th edition of the MENA ICT Forum 2022.

 

The National AI Strategy and the Implementation Roadmap for 2023-2027, developed in close consultation with the public, private sector and academia was launched by by Bisher Al Khasawneh, Prime Minister of Jordan, Her Royal Highness Princess Sumayya Bint Al Hasan, and Ahmed Hanandeh, Minister of MoDEE.

 

The AI Strategy and Implementation Roadmap includes a 5-year implementation plan based on 68 selected projects with a clear vision on how to develop the country’s AI ecosystem. The projects will introduce digital infrastructure and AI technologies to accelerate economic development, attract investment and create sustainable opportunities for employment, innovation and entrepreneurship.

 

The AI Strategy rests on five strategic pillars, including: 1) Capacity-building and developing national skills and expertise in AI; 2) Encouraging scientific research and development related to AI; 3) Enhancing investment and entrepreneurship environment; 4) Supporting legislative and regulatory environment conducive for the safer adoption of AI technologies; and 5) Applying AI tools to improve the efficiency of government services and the public sector.

 

The MENA ICT 2022 is a major regional discussion platform with thematic focus on artificial intelligence, financial technology and smart industries. It is held under the patronage of King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein and is organized by the Information and Communications Technology Association of Jordan in partnership with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, the Central Bank of Jordan and the Ministry of Investment. This year, the forum gathered thousands of high-level government, business, banking, investment, diplomatic and academic representatives from Jordan, Austria, Bahrain, Germany, Egypt, Ireland, Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Palestine, Romania, Russian Federation, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and many others, alongside the Chinese Investment Fund operating in the Middle East and North Africa.
