Preparations for the PCP Morocco are underway

VIENNA, 25 September 2018 - Under the Programme for Country Partnership (PCP), a United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) delegation, led by Bassel Al Khatib, UNIDO Chief of Regional Division for Arab Region, started a first round of bilateral and multilateral meetings in the Kingdom of Morocco.

The PCP brings different national ministries together with development partners at the same table to create more synergy between the interventions that support inclusive and sustainable industrial development.

This was the first meeting with the National Coordination Body, represented by focal points of each Ministry. The PCP Morocco team leader is Taoufiq Moucharraf, Director of International Cooperation and Communication from the Ministry of Industry, Investment, Trade and Digital Economy. The main priority of the discussion was to establish a Programme for Country Partnership in Morocco, with the goal of finalizing inputs for the PCP Morocco Programme Document that will serve as a baseline for its implementation and which will assist with the government’s industrial development plans.

In addition, a roundtable discussion for financial institutions and donors for PCP Morocco was held.  Numerous  institutions and embassies took part in the discussion, among which were representatives of the World Bank,  the African Development Bank, and the Islamic Development Bank, as well as representatives of Italian, Chinese, Spanish, Norwegian, Finnish and other embassies. Many of the present institutions and embassies showed interest in building partnerships with UNIDO and the Moroccan government on the PCP. Also the private sector showcased its full support throughout several dedicated meetings.

In preparation of the final concept for the PCP, the collected work, suggestions and outputs were presented to the Minister of Industry of Morocco, who supported the activities.

The PCP Morocco aims to support the country in achieving its long-term industrial development goals defined in the Industrial Acceleration Plan. The topics that will be discussed and covered by twelve UNIDO experts in various areas are the following: Industry 4.0, e-commerce, agribusiness, the circular economy, energy, statistics, gender, South-South and triangular cooperation, and industrial parks, as well as partnerships with the private sector and financial institutions.
