DAKAR, 25 March 2014 - The Republic of Senegal and the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) will multiply joint efforts to strengthen bilateral cooperation and advance the country's industrial development.
This was agreed during a three-day official visit to Senegal by the Director General of UNIDO, LI Yong. He had meetings with President Macky Sall; Prime Minister, Aminata Touré; and Government officials including the Ministers of Industry and Mines, Trade, Entrepreneurship and the Informal sector, Vocational training, apprenticeship and craft, and Environment and sustainable development.
The Director General of UNIDO also met with various officials of the United Nations system based in Senegal, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives of the private sector and donors.
During his meetings, LI Yong presented UNIDO’s new vision of inclusive and sustainable industrial development, stressing the ties it has with Senegal’s Development Plan presented last February at the Paris meeting of the Consultative Group on Senegal.
During his visit, the Director General visited the Senegal slaughterhouses management company (SOGAS), which has received technical support from UNIDO through a special upgrading programme.
Director General Li will also visit Ghana and Nigeria.
