VIENNA, 27 April 2021 - UNIDO Director General LI Yong and Acting Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Moldova Aureliu Ciocoi discussed the ongoing cooperation between UNIDO and the Government of the Republic of Moldova. UNIDO is implementing a Country Programme for inclusive and sustainable industrial development in the Republic of Moldova 2019-2023 focusing on enhanced industrial competitiveness, market access, innovation and investment promotion; productive employment and entrepreneurship development; and sustainable energy and environmental management.
The Organization is also profoundly engaged in the formulation of the new generation of the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2023-2027.
The Director General informed that broad partnership-building and resource-mobilization activities to leverage the support of the donor community for the implementation of the Country Programme are ongoing. In particular, UNIDO held several rounds of technical consultations with the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, as well as with the Brussels-based EU Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR) to explore cooperation opportunities for supporting Moldova’s industrial SMEs through the Subcontracting and Partnership Exchange (SPX) and strengthening linkages between research and industry in Moldova. Acting Prime Minister underlined the importance of the industrial development agenda in the country and requested UNIDO’s support in the preparation of the national mid-term industrial development strategy.
