UNIDO and the Government of Kyrgyzstan hold successful consultations on the country’s PCP

BISHKEK, 29 March 2019 – The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) held fruitful meetings in Kyrgyzstan to discuss key developments and next steps with regards to the development of the Kyrgyz Republic’s Programme for Country Partnership (PCP).

Jacek Cukrowski, Chief of the UNIDO’s Regional Division for Europe and Central Asia, met with high-level government counterparts to discuss the action plan to ensure a swift finalization of the programme framework and its comprehensive implementation. The parties also discussed the establishment of a PCP National Coordination Body to guide the PCP’s realization, as well as a Standard Country Basic Cooperation Agreement to further strengthen cooperation between UNIDO and Kyrgyzstan.

“The Kyrgyz Republic is fortunate to participate in the PCP, an innovative initiative of UNIDO, supported by the Russian Federation both politically and financially,” said Emil Osmonbetov, Chairman of the State Committee of Industry, Energy and Subsoil Use. “This partnership tool for inclusive and sustainable industrial development of Kyrgyzstan can make a significant contribution to the modernization of industry, including at the regional level, and help achieve greater economic growth.”

Cukrowski also participated in the Kyrgyz-Russian Inter-Regional Investment Conference where he presented UNIDO’s programmatic activities, as well as the PCP’s multi-stakeholder approach and the concept of government ownership. “UNIDO is committed to making PCP Kyrgyzstan a great success and, therefore, is seeking support of all relevant stakeholders, including the government, private sector, international organizations, NGOs and academia,” said Cukrowski in his statement.

Further meetings were held including with Oleg Pankratov, Minister of Economy; Talaibek Kydyrov, Ambassador at Large – Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs; Daniiar Imanaliev, Head of Division for Financial and Economic Analysis Development Monitoring at the Apparatus of the President; Nurlan Moldoshov, Director of Eurasian Development Bank in the Kyrgyz Republic and Ekmat Baibakpaev, Member of the Parliament.
