UNIDO and the Republic of Uzbekistan sign Joint Declaration

VIENNA, 22 December 2020 – LI Yong, Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), and Jamshid Kuchkarov, Minister of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction of the Republic of Uzbekistan, have signed a Joint Declaration for an initial period of four years.  

 

The Joint Declaration commits UNIDO and Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Economic Development and Poverty Reduction to promote cooperation in various areas, including, amongst others, green industry, a circular economy, renewable energy and energy efficiency, agro-industrial clusters and light industry modernization, with the aim of contributing to inclusive and sustainable industrial development and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

 

The Joint Declaration will also facilitate the implementation of the "Industrial Development Strategy of the Republic of Uzbekistan until 2030" and will be accompanied by a road map for its operationalization.  

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and travel restrictions, the Joint Declaration was concluded via an exchange of correspondence.

 

UNIDO-Uzbekistan cooperation has spanned over 27 years and currently comprises 15 completed stand-alone projects focusing on technical assistance and policy advice for national investment promotion, sustainable employment and entrepreneurship development, export-oriented trade, cleaner production, business incubators and enterprise development.
