UNIDO brings experts together to discuss skills for resilience

VIENNA, 15 September 2022 – The United Nations Industrial Development Organization’s (UNIDO) Learning and Knowledge Development Facility (LKDF) convened an Expert Group Meeting (EGM) to explore and exchange views on the importance of skills to foster resilience.

Ahead of the LKDF Forum 2022, ”Skills for Resilience: Are We Ready for a Skills Revolution?” to be held from 19 to 20 October 2022 in Vienna, the EGM included participation from UNIDO partners such as the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, Festo Didactic, and the European Training Foundation.

Speaking at the EGM, Virpi Stucki, Chief of the UNIDO Skills Development and Fair Production Unit said, “At UNIDO, we have a specific understanding related to skills for resilience. It is very important to reflect our views vis-à-vis other opinions to come to a common understanding that will serve as a guiding beacon for LKDF’s work in the coming years”.

“The EGM gave us the opportunity to discuss resilience in many different contexts”, said Elfi Klumpp, Head of Partnership Development Global Education at Festo Didactic. “We discussed the kind of skills that we can develop in the years to come, and what we have to do differently”.

The outcome from this meeting is anticipated to contribute to the LKDF work programme in the coming years.  The Learning and Knowledge Development Facility (LKDF) is a platform that promotes industrial skills development among young people in emerging developing economies. The LKDF supports the establishment and upgrading of industrial training academies to help meet the labor market’s increasing demand for skilled employees, ultimately contributing to inclusive and sustainable industrial development (ISID).
