ISSYK-KUL REGION, KYRGYZSTAN, 28 JUNE 2019 – The United Nations Industrial Development Organized (UNIDO) conducted its Project Steering Committee in the Issyk-Kul region, which was attended by the Embassy of the Russian Federation in the Kyrgyz Republic as the project donor, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Industry, the Department of Tourism and the Kyrgyz Technical University.
“Integrating productive sectors with the tourism sector is very important”, said UNIDO Deputy Director Olga Memedovic, “This can be an effective growth strategy for promoting inclusive and sustainable industrial development”. UNIDO presented its results, which include direct support to SMEs and cooperatives – a total of over 2,000 people.
“The assistance provided to the beneficiaries has a multiplier effect”, said Renat Agliullin, Representative of the Russian Embassy in Kyrgyzstan. “It contributes to increasing the people's well-being and to the development of the region”. UNIDO also handed over condensation chambers to dry medical herbs for two cooperatives and more than 300 families.
