UNIDO to implement sustainable city development project in Malaysia

MALACCA, Malaysia, 28 April 2017 - “Sustainable city development in Malaysia”, a first of a kind project in the country, will be launched on 2 May in the city of Malacca on the south-west coast.

The project is part of the Global Environment Facility’s (GEF) Sustainable Cities Integrated Approach Pilot (SC-IAP), and will be implemented by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in partnership with the Ministry of Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government and the Malaysian Industry-Government Group for High Technology.

The project was designed to directly contribute to the SC-IAP goals of integrated sustainability planning.

In the next five years, the project will support urban planning and management taking into account sustainability and related economic, social and environmental matters, as well as help in climate risks mitigation and in the adaptation of technologies.
