KANPUR, 5 February 2018 – The United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has taken steps to support the leather manufacturing industry in India by organizing training focused on sustainable leather manufacturing technologies. The training was held as part of the Kanpur Leather Development Project by Kanpur Unnao Leather Development Company (KLC) in partnership with UNIDO, the University of Northampton, and Common&Sense, in coordination with the Council of Leather Exports (CLE) and the Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI).
The project engages tannery owners and technicians, with training divided into theoretical and practical sections, and includes demonstrations in pilot units at selected tanneries. Twenty-six participants benefitted from the blended training, which featured on-line and classroom elements, with topics including ‘How to deal with hydrogen sulphide gas’ and ‘First aid in the workplace’.
Now also available in Hindi, the KLC is to use training packages and on-line training tools and methodology developed for the course in the next training cycle. The e-learning platform includes features such as a discussion forum, news forum, and assignment options.
