Mr. Edward Clarence-Smith is a Senior Green Industry Expert, offering training and technical assistance services. He also teaches a graduate course at Kyoto University on sustainable industrialisation. Mr. Clarence-Smith recently retired from the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), where he had worked for 18 years. In his last positions, he was the Representative and Director of UNIDO’s Regional Offices in Bangkok, Thailand, and Beijing, China. Before this, he worked in UNIDO’s Headquarters, in the global Cleaner Production programme and as the organization’s Senior Coordinator for the Global Environment Facility (GEF).
Prior to UNIDO, Mr. Clarence-Smith worked for 8 years in Italy for Dames & Moore International, an international environmental consulting company, eventually becoming the CEO for the company’s Italian operations. Before that, he worked for the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) in New York; the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in Paris; the Joint Research Centre of the European Commission in Italy; and the US Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) in Washington D.C.
