Klaus Tyrkkö is the Division Chief for Stockholm Convention Unit of the Environment Department of United Nations Industrial Development Organization, UNIDO. The unit has 10 staff and implements a technical assistance program in some 50 countries with the annual turnover of US$ 15 million.
Mr. Tyrkkö’s expertise is particularly strong in recycling, chemicals and waste management with global effects that are restricted under various international conventions and other agreements.
Mr. Tyrkkö has an extensive experience working at all levels, from technical support at the company level to negotiating environmental treaties, as well as developing and advising successful programmes and projects financed by international funding mechanisms. He is a former Policy Specialist at UNDP, as well as Expert at the European Commission and a long experience in environmental consulting in more than 20 countries.
