Ms. Mia Mikic is the Director of the Trade, Investment and Innovation Division in United Nations ESCAP. She also coordinates the Asia-Pacific Research and Training Network on Trade (ARTNeT), an open network of research and academic institutions and think-tanks in the Asia-Pacific region. Previously, she was Professor of International Economics at the University of Zagreb, Senior Lecturer at the University of Auckland, Research Associate at the University of Canterbury and a visiting fellow at the Universite Lumiere, Lyon, and Oxford University. She is the author of International Trade (Macmillan, 1998), co-authored Trade Statistics in Policy-making – A handbook of commonly used trade indices and indicators (United Nations, 2009) and has contributed chapters to several edited volumes and reports and published a number of journal articles and other papers. She designed, run and/or served as a resource person of a number of regional or national trade policy, WTO-related or trade research capacity development courses, for government officials, NGO representatives, members of academia and businessmen in numerous Asia-Pacific countries. Her current work focuses on the impacts of preferential and multilateral trade liberalization, services trade liberalization, non-tariff protection, Aid for Trade and evidence-based policy-making in trade. She has masters in International Business from the St. Mary’s College of California and a doctorate in Economics from the University of Zagreb.
