Field Office in Türkiye

General information

UNIDO Field Office in Türkiye was established in 1967, and in 2000, has also became the UNIDO Centre for Regional Cooperation (UCRC) after the signing of new agreement between UNIDO and the Government of Türkiye.

The UCRC is responsible for developing, coordinating and actively supporting the overall cooperation between UNIDO and the Government of Türkiye, academia, the private sector and the civil society of the country for promoting sustainable industrial development.

The UCRC facilitates the implementation of UNIDO technical cooperation projects in Türkiye within UNIDO’s main thematic priority areas, including environment, climate change, renewables, agro-industry as well as trade, investment and innovation.

In this framework, the UNIDO implements a number of projects in Türkiye that provide technical assistance to the Turkish Government regarding cluster development, eco efficiency-cleaner production, energy efficiency in industry, clean technology innovation acceleration program, implementation of international environmental agreements such as Montreal Protocol, Stockholm and Minamata Convention, etc.

Furthermore, the UCRC also organizes international training programs for experts participating mostly from Central Asia, Middle East and Africa annually in the field of food processing, textile-leather laboratories, nanotechnology, investment promotion, etc.

Regarding the Post-2015 Development Agenda, Türkiye was selected to carry out the task on the second round of Post-2015 National Consultations on “Engaging with the private sector” to issue a report, which was conducted by UCRCT in cooperation with United Nations Global Compact Turkey.

Furthermore, “Vocational Training for Syrian Youth and Women Refugees in Türkiye Using Mobile Apparel Skills Units” projects aimed to improve the livelihoods and social security of refugees, in particular the youth and women by providing them with skills for (self) employment, were implemented by UCRCT in the Temporary Protection Centres in Sanliurfa-Harran, Kilis-Oncupinar, Gaziantep-Islahiye, Kahramanmaras-Dulkadirogullari where the total number of 2161 refugees were entitled to get the certificate of the Ministry of National Education.
