UNIDO Centre for South-South Industrial Cooperation (UCSSIC China)
The UNIDO Centre for South-South Industrial Cooperation (UCSSIC China) was established in July 2008 based on a Memorandum of Understanding on enhancing South-South industrial cooperation between UNIDO and the Peoples Republic of China in September 2006. The objective of the Centre is to contribute to the industrial development and economic growth of developing countries by identifying and mobilizing the technical, financial, managerial, and other resources required for projects and programmes within the framework of South-South cooperation.
Upon completion of the 1st phase of the project and based on the achievements accomplished by UCSSIC China, the 2nd phase of the project, entitled “Supporting the UNIDO Centre for South-South Industrial Cooperation in China (2nd Phase)” further enhanced South-South industrial cooperation between China and other developing countries.
During the 2nd phase, UCSSIC China served as a platform for building partnerships between China and other developing countries, promoting knowledge and experience sharing, capacity building, and technology transfer. During this period, UNIDO further strengthened its cooperation with China, concluding a series of cooperation agreements under the framework of South-South and triangular industrial cooperation.
During the current 3rd phase, the purpose of the Centre is to further strengthen South-South and Triangular Industrial Cooperation (SSTIC) between China and other developing countries in order to achieve Inclusive and Sustainable Industrial Development (ISID). The Centre supports a variety of partnerships and initiatives such as China’s Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), China-UNIDO Country Programme Framework and UNIDO’s flagship Programme for Country Partnership (PCP). Furthermore, the Centre facilitates joint research and policy development, eco/green industrial park development, renewable energy, SME collaboration, E-commerce, innovative technology transfer and upgrading, trade and investment promotion, industrial capacity cooperation as well as institutional capacity building.
- Facilitating matchmaking through specialized activities;
