Internship in External Relations

Duration: 3-6 working months

Duty Station: UNIDO Headquarters in Vienna

Organizational context: Working in close collaboration with all organizational entities within UNIDO, the Department of External Relations serves as the main channel of communication and interaction between Member States and the UNIDO Secretariat. It provides substantive, technical and logistical support to the policymaking organs as well as their inter-sessional working groups. The Department establishes, maintains, coordinates and monitors the Organization’s official contacts with Member and non- Member States, regional groups, and IGOs/NGOs, and establishes and maintains strategic and policy level relations with traditional donors, and is responsible for the identification of potential funding opportunities for technical cooperation and related activities of UNIDO from all sources as well as preparation, management and safekeeping of funding agreements. It also performs external relations functions, protocol duties and provides support services to the Vienna Chapter of G-77 and China.

Tasks: Under the overall guidance of the Director/Officer-in-Charge and the direct supervision of the External Relations Officer, the intern will perform the following tasks:

1. Research relations with donor governments with a view to identifying potential donors for the funding of UNIDO’s services;

2. Research the work of UNIDO's policymaking organs;

3. Assist in the organizing of meetings of UNIDO's policymaking organs;

4. Perform other tasks as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualification requirements:

a.) Academic background: Translation, Business Administration, International Relations or a related field.

b.) Computer literacy: Microsoft Windows, proficient use of processing tools such as Microsoft Office package (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) is required.

c.) Familiarity with photographic and audio-visual equipment as well as photo-editing and video-editing software desired.
