Special Round Table Mesa Redonda Especial

Poverty Reduction in Latin America in the Context of Sustainable Development

Wednesday, 3 December 2003 - 15:00-17:00 CET - Conference Room B

The special Round Table on Poverty Reduction in Latin America and the Caribbean within the framework of sustainable development addressed issues related to MDG 1, which deals with the eradication of poverty and hunger.

Widespread poverty and the extremely inequitable distribution of wealth in the Latin America and Caribbean region need to be addressed. The round table sought to identify key areas of intervention in order to achieve those objectives and the corresponding technical cooperation response on the part of UNIDO.

Among the topics for discussion were stimulation of economic growth, measures against urban migration as well as against social and economic exclusion of women and indigenous groups.
