General information

 

The General Conference, Thirteenth Session, of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) opened in Vienna on 7 December, 2010.

The General Conference is UNIDO’s highest policymaking organ, consisting of 173 Member States. It appointed the Director-General for a period of four years, approved programmes and budgets and established the scale assessments for regular budget expenditures for the forthcoming biennium.

This years' thematic focus during the event was on “green industries” and the opportunities they offer for developing countries in the current economic circumstances.

The role of industry was highlighted in this context, and  finding solutions to emerging and global challenges faced by these countries in achieving their developmental objectives within a framework of environmental sustainability.
