Empowering People and Processes Through Digital Intelligence in Production and Technical Education
In the context of megatrends such as digitalization, individualization and climate change, UNIDO, in partnership with Festo Didactic, has been driving innovation in sustainable industry and technical education through two flagship projects - H2O Maghreb in Morocco and the CAIME initiative in Uruguay. Both projects use the Public-Private Development Partnership (PPDP) model to foster innovation in technical education and empower local workforces to navigate the twin transitions of digital and green.

Enhancing National Ecosystems for Digital Transformation in Industry
This solution addresses the challenge of underdeveloped ecosystems in many countries, which hampers their ability to effectively harness digital transformation and Industry 4.0 technologies. Many nations lack the necessary infrastructure, stakeholder coordination (robust innovation ecosystem connectivity), and policy frameworks to support innovation at a national or sectoral level. UNIDO’s ecosystem support focuses on mapping and strengthening these systems, ensuring they are robust and capable of driving sustainable industrial development.

More than half of the global population currently lives in cities, projected to reach two-thirds by 2050. While bringing greater opportunities, accelerated urbanization will continue to exert pressure on resources and the environment. Cities, therefore, cannot continue as usual and must incorporate action towards reducing the environmental footprint, while addressing increased vulnerability from climate change and providing higher quality public services. Industries located in or near cities must be an integral part of sustainable city planning.

The Global Quality and Standards Programme (GQSP) aims to enhance international trade by reinforcing countries’ quality infrastructure (QI)institutions and strengthening the quality and standards compliance capacities of SMEs, across 11 countries.
By focusing on specific value chains, the programme supports countries in meeting stringent market requirements, fostering sustainable trade, and integrating into global value chains.
