UNIDO Director General at COP25

MADRID, 11 December 2019 - Director General LI Yong delivered an opening speech at the side-event of UN Climate Change Conference COP 25, “Accelerating the Energy Transformation in Support of Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreement”. Director General Li emphasized the importance of accelerating the energy transition to ensure sustainable energy for all through global partnerships between governments and the private sector.

MADRID, 11 December 2019 - Director General LI Yong met with Fernando Martin Valenzuela Marzo, the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of Spain. UNIDO and Spain agreed to reinforce collaboration, especially in private sector enhancement.

MADRID, 11 December 2019 - Director General LI Yong met with Jorge Chediek, Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General on South-South Cooperation and Director of the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC). Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation between UNIDO and UNOSSC, and in particular the continued expansion of the Global Network of Regional Sustainable Energy Centres (GN-SEC).

MADRID, 11 December 2019 – Director General LI Yong met with LIU Zhenmin, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (UN DESA). UNIDO and UN DESA look forward to strengthening their cooperation to support Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 7: the energy transition towards affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all.

MADRID, 11 December 2019 – Director General LI Yong met with Damilola Ogunbiyi, CEO of SEforALL on the sidelines of the UN Climate Change Conference COP 25. Director General Li stressed that UNIDO is looking forward to enhanced collaboration with SEforALL, especially on revitalizing UN-Energy; cooperation on the Kigali Conference; and the Vienna Energy Forum (VEF) 2020.

MADRID, 11 December 2019 – Director General LI Yong met with Andrés Landerretche, COP25 Presidency Coordinator. The Director General expressed his appreciation and congratulated Chile on its leadership in steering negotiations at the ongoing United Nations Climate Change Conference. Chile emphasized its interest in expanding collaboration with UNIDO as an organization that can offer viable solutions to climate challenges.

MADRID, 11 December 2019 – Director General LI Yong met with Ovais Sarmad, Deputy Executive Secretary of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). A Joint Declaration was signed to increase cooperation on driving climate action and ambition forward. Both parties agreed that 2020 would be a particularly significant time for countries to enhance their nationally determined contributions (NDCs) for the Paris Agreement.
