Vienna Expert Group Meeting - 3rd BRIDGE event
An Expert Group Meeting (EGM) was organized on 26 June 2018 to discuss “What soft factors make Vienna an attractive investment location and one of the most liveable cities in the world?”. The EGM was designed to facilitate the discussion about the case study on the City of Vienna, which will be discussed during the 3rd “BRIDGE for Cities” event, to be held from 9 to 11 October 2018.
The EGM – co-organized by UNIDO and City of Vienna’s – gathered together more than twenty speakers and forty participants, presenting different point of views on the Viennese soft environment – from healthcare to culture life, from business climate to education and mobility – to pinpoint and define in which way each of those factors can contribute to the enhancement of any city’s liveability.
The inputs from the speakers’ interventions and from the open discussion during the EGM will be fundamental to enrich and update a UNIDO’s forthcoming issue paper titled “Soft Environment for Urban Investments”, which will highlight how cities’ soft environment supports an open society, which spurs ideas, entrepreneurship, innovation growth, and ultimately attracts investments for urban development, while creating a liveable environment. The issue paper includes definitions, key performance indicators and linkages to SDG 9, and best practices, using the City of Vienna as a term of comparison for those cities in developing countries which aim to achieve inclusive and sustainable urban-industrial development.
The issue paper and the Vienna case will be potentially presented by the Mayor of Vienna in the Urban Issue Hub (III), during the 3rd “BRIDGE for Cities” event, which aims at addressing and discussing the wide and diversified range of soft measures necessary to facilitate and attract investments for cities’ development.
