UNIDO – Hewlett Packard partnership to promote youth employment

In May 2008, UNIDO signed a strategic partnership agreement with HP to work together on the HP “Graduate Entrepreneurship Training through IT” (GET-IT) programme in Africa.

The GET-IT teaches practical IT solutions for daily business challenges faced in areas such as finance, management, marketing and technology management with the wider purpose to help unemployed people between the ages of 16 and 25 acquiring IT skills and becoming better placed to create and run their own businesses. Both partners, UNIDO and HP, are committed to providing essential entrepreneurship and IT skills for youth to help alleviate poverty and make a positive contribution to the Millennium Development Goals.

Tunisia is one of the six African countries, together with Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria, South Africa, and Uganda, that benefits of the GET-IT programme. The Industrial Promotion Agency (API) in Tunis has been selected as GET-IT centre 2008. The first Training of Trainers (TOT) took place in August 2008 and was attended by 5 API trainers.
