UNIDO and UNODC to host meeting of UN system private sector focal points

VIENNA, 28 March 2012 – “Accelerating UN-Business Partnerships” is the theme of this year’s UN System Private Sector Focal Points Meeting that is jointly hosted by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in Vienna today and tomorrow.

The strategic engagement of the UN with the private sector has substantially advanced over the past decade, resulting in the expansion of innovative business partnerships across the UN system. In support of this growing engagement, the UN System Private Sector Focal Points Meeting is held on an annual basis to explore the potential of UN-business partnerships in addressing the challenges of the twenty-first century.

The event brings together UN staff from headquarters and the field that work with the private sector in various capacities, as well as a number of senior representatives of the private sector, and civil society

This year’s theme, “Accelerating UN-Business Partnerships”, reflects the UN system’s preparations for the upcoming UN Conference on Sustainable Development, Rio +20. Plenary sessions will showcase various examples of UN-business partnership models in regards to design, operationalization and outcome, with additional insights from private sector representatives on the way forward. Additional working group sessions will provide a setting for discussions on trends, experiences and challenges, and seek to derive recommendations for enhancing future efforts.
